John began providing therapy 35 years ago and continues to enjoy the challenge of helping others get along. Rosemarie and he have been together for 45 years and have one adult daughter.

In private practice, John’s commitment to each client, couple or family is to listen for what is important and help them achieve their goals. He focuses on illuminating unrecognized strengths, skills and social supports to foster resiliency that diminishes unwanted feelings, memories, thoughts and behaviours.

In 1995 he began working under contract with federal and provincial corrections to help inmates identified as suffering from chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD]. This work continues today with the goal of preparing inmates, who will eventually return to the community, to be mindful of present circumstance and less driven by adverse childhood experiences.

In 2015, John was a psychological support worker during the Truth and Reconciliation hearings that gathered statements from survivors of Indian residential schools and affected family members in the hearings located in Victoria, Vancouver and Williams Lake. Today, he continues weekly trauma counselling sessions with First Nations People in face-to-face meetings and over Zoom.
